Anxious waiting, nervous scrolling through news feeds in search of new information give way to sleepless nights and the ruthless destruction of coffee supplies. The time has come for continuous immersion in the long-awaited AAA project. Finally, Quantic Dream presented the world with its next creation. What came of it?
Omitting the epithets, I would like to go straight to the examples, so, first things first… warning, there are spoilers!

Whose story?

The narrative is divided into three lines. So, from the very beginning we are introduced to Conor. After a small case in which someone is killed, someone is saved and this is all the fruit of your efforts, you have to walk through the bars in search of your partner. What’s the matter? The famous company sends him to help police lieutenant Andersen, who is not very happy about such cooperation. He must help in the investigation of crimes committed by androids, which is logical if you ask the question: who will catch the fugitive’s car faster than his fellow? It is worth mentioning one more detail, because of which these games of catch-up actually began: these androids are deviants. A system failure, a clever move or “evolution” – the reason is not known, but one thing is clear: artificial intelligence has acquired feelings, naturally, not without consequences. This is exactly what the above-mentioned duo has to deal with. What will come of this? Depends only on the choice of players.

Where am I? What’s happening? If these questions came to you, you don’t know where you are, and why, in the end, these people are looking at you, this means that a narrative line has begun, telling about the second protagonist named Kara. Of course, this character will be familiar to many. So back in 2012 D. Cage created a short film designed to demonstrate the new capabilities of motion capture. It is in this seven-minute video that we first meet the android girl, who will later play one of the important roles in Detroit: Become human. So Kara comes to her senses. She is in a store where she was sent for repairs after being “hit by a truck.”. From this moment it becomes clear that this story has a strong dramatic component. So, Kara will have to remember the cause of the breakdown and make more than one important decision on the way to changing not only her life but also becoming a savior for the girl Alice.

Going to the store and getting “received” along the way for being an android is a good start to the day. It’s time to meet the last, but not least, protagonist, Marcus. It’s hard to say that he is a servant in the house of a famous artist. He treats him like a son, which cannot be said about his own child. But of course, there are reasons for this. After a certain series of events (which, naturally, will be the envy of the player), Marcus’s journey begins, in search of himself, searching for a way out of the current situation. In the future, this is what will serve to establish him as the leader of the androids fighting for recognition and freedom. One can only guess how all this will turn out, so, viva la revolution, comrades!

What is the main idea raised in the project?? This is where some difficulties may arise when searching for a suitable answer. The fact is that, despite the presence of the main theme of the story, a huge number of questions are raised. One can only guess how it was possible to collect all this into a single whole and not turn it into something incoherent and incomprehensible. This is the whole – humanity, our behavior, way of thinking, habits and much more. Every little thing here is like a detail of one mechanism, which as a whole paints us the world as it can become and makes us think about how to avoid it.

So what are we talking about??

The basis is a split in society due to the situation with androids. We wanted to do the best, but it turned out that it’s embarrassing to even talk about it. It would seem like a great idea to use androids as a workforce. There is no need to pay wages, they do not get tired and do everything that is included in the program. Good idea? As it turned out, not very. All this provoked an increase in unemployment and increased the degree of tension in society to dangerous limits, and with the advent of deviants it went completely off scale. Now we come to the first issue that is raised in this game: issues of racism. Abolition of slavery, special parking lots and places for androids and recognition of rights. Despite the fact that the action takes place in two thousand and thirties, the situation is not too different from the events that took place before sixty-five. Don’t forget to remind us about safety issues. So, for example, when going through you can find an article in a magazine about “how androids store all our data and who can use it”. So, you can imagine that your Android will be waiting for you around the corner with another advertisement compiled based on analytics of your preferences.

What kind of fight is this without politics?

Of course, lately it’s a rare person who refrains from talking about politics. So here, it did not go unnoticed. What happens back in the thirties?? The escalating conflict between the United States and Russia. Prophecies of the outbreak of a third world war due to the escalating conflict in northern waters. So, the next time you hear the phrase “nothing lasts forever,” you can safely say the opposite by pointing to this small but illustrative example.
What else? The media periodically distort facts, ban demonstrations and disregard for public opinion. This results in a standard set of pressing problems, which further aggravates the situation.

About everything and a little

It seems like it’s not enough? As you wish. Here are the global irreversible consequences due to neglect of nature conservation. Warming is coming and now it’s too late to change anything. Further, the extinction of wild bees, the world is heading towards self-destruction with confident steps. But even this gloomy situation did not turn out to be a death sentence. Zoos with mechanical animals are being created, just like those that migrated from the Red Book to the Black Book. This will probably serve as some kind of solution in the fight against the “bee” problem.
And this point is from the category of “it seemed”, but it is possible that there was also a mention of religion. Throughout the game we see mentions of the mysterious ra9 more than once. Among the deviants there is a whole prophecy about the first created android who will come and free them. The veracity of this legend remains a mystery.
It remains, perhaps, to mention only family dramas. Perhaps this is an essential thought, a thread that connects our protagonists. Problems of fathers and children, domestic violence and difficulties of loss, friendship – we combine all this into one category. This is what served as a certain motivation for action for all the characters, this is what changed them throughout history.

Here we come to the most important thing. The result is always the same – the person is to blame for everything. A simple truth, but realized through too long a path. Was it worth it? Is thought as global as it is portrayed to us?? Perhaps everyone should answer this question for themselves. If you put aside criticism and just enjoy the game, you can come across more than one interesting moment, references, and just have a great time.
