In 1985, devoted Father Bill Furlong discovers disturbing secrets held by a local convent and uncovers shocking truths about himself. Cillian Murphy is a fan of the film’s original novelist, Claire Keegan. He remembers reading her novel “The Fosters” on a train and having to pull a hood over his face because he was crying. Eileen Furlong: If you want to live in this life, there are things you have to ignore.. Dedicated to the more than 56,000 young women who were sent to Magdalene institutions for "repentance and rehabilitation" between 1922 and 1998. And the children who were taken from them.. Presented in 60 Minutes: Crisis at the Red Sea/Fake Voters/Surandant Cillian Murphy (2024). My eyes were completely glued to the screen while watching this film. The number of scenes with zero dialogue that have so much atmosphere and emotion is just incredible, as I expected. But the emotions he shows in this film and the way he carries himself through his body language and facial expressions are just amazing. He is truly one of the best actors of this generation. The tension he brings to every scene is fantastic. It really shows how horrible some of the nuns were back then. The running time of this film was 1 hour and 45 minutes. It felt even longer because I was so immersed in it. The nature and cinematography were so simple, yet so effective. They both really added a lot to the film and just gave it the closure it needed. I would love to get more films like this in the future. It was also great to learn more about the history of my country, even if it is the dark side of it. “If you want to live on, you have to ignore things so you can stay.” – Eileen Furlong
