The backstory of the original Dune tells the story of how Rozak’s sister became Bene Gesserit. The incident with Valja Harkonen using the voice is from one called “Mentats of Dune”. All three books address the development of nurses, mentees, navigators and brush doctors. I don’t want to be critical of just the first episode of a TV show, but it was just average on every level.
The story was very loose and the dialogue was not dune worthy
The acting was sub par with the exception of a few established actors like Mark Strong, Emily Watson, Olivia Williams and maybe Travis Fimmel. The rest of the cast felt like they had just graduated from a film academy or something. I love slow dramas that take forever to build because I know the payoff is worth the wait. But it wasn’t just slow, there was a lot going on, but it was just boring, I don’t know how else to put it.
It’s like I heard a lot of music here that had no effect
The soundtrack that roamed the movies was a bit choppy here and there, some familiar sounds popping up here and there, but the timing just wasn’t good. I remembered how long in the movies we go with people just talking and then boom, Hans Zimmer does his magic and I was so excited. But I know he wasn’t involved in making the sounds here and I don’t even need to check. I’m not sure if Denis Villeneuve was involved in this production, I hope not.
Food for thought
My question is, did he even like that it was done? Would an average TV show like this after two epic movies have an impact on the long-awaited third movie? What I do care about is that The Penguin was so good that it made me appreciate Batman even more than I did after watching it, and I can’t wait for the second movie. So how will Dune: Prophecy affect the third film, if at all.
